Originally a Reserves player for Richmond in 1991, Davidson played seconds for Melbourne in 1992 while also with Collegians. The defender was selected by Carlton with pick 74 in the 1993 Pre-Season draft. He didn't play a game with the Blues and was delisted at the end of the season.

After leaving Princes Park, Davidson returned to Collegians, before playing Reserves with Melbourne again, finishing third in the Best and Fairest. He was ruled ineligible for the 1996 amateurs finals due to twice playing both VAFA and AFL Reserves games on the same weekend. He returned to Collegians again and was still playing there in 2004.
