6ft, 7in ruckman who began his Melbourne career in the 1980 Scholarship Squad, and played in the 1981 Under 19s premiership team. He played Reserves from 1982 to 1984.

In the 1984 Night Series, Joycey scored six Best and Fairest votes for the senior side. Midway through that year he was loaned to SANFL side Central Districts, playing eight games for the season. He joined VFA side Port Melbourne in 1985.
