Three time premiership player with Scotch College, including as captain in 1897, Robinson played as a follower in Melbourne's first ever game. He had previously appeared with the Demons in the 1896 VFA season.

Later played for Ballarat. Died in 1901 at age 22 after a long battle with tuberculosis.
