Ruck-rover and half-back flanker who possessed an accurate handball and could be used as a tagger when required. After five seasons with North Melbourne, Jarrott joined Melbourne along with teammates Steven Icke and Brian WIlson in 1982. He was a regular in his first five seasons at Melbourne, playing 91 games, then remained on the list in 1987 but did not play a game.

From mid-1987 to the end of 1988, Jarrott coached the Demon Under 19s and he later worked as a sports journalist for The Age. Coached University Blues in 1992.
