The champion schoolboy athlete had his debut delayed until midway through 1912 due to a pre-season accident. He then broke a finger playing for Parade during an interstate game weekend but only missed a week and played out the rest of the year.
In 1913 he had a delayed start to the year due to military duty, played in Round 4, then not again until Round 11.
