Lowest score against St Kilda and at the Junction Oval
St Kilda fans went into the game expecting to have a tough time after a miserable performance the previous week. Turmoil behind the scenes which saw two players stand down after a dispute with the committee didn't help, but the side rallied and put in a great performance to win easily.
The first goal came in under a minute, and after turning back Melbourne's first attack the Seasiders piled on five straight goals. The game was all but over at quarter time with the margin 34 points. Compared to the previous Saturday Melbourne were a different side. It didn't help that the breeze dropped off slightly before the second quarter started, but allowing St Kilda to get the first goal of the half was inexcusable.
The visitors took just five points off the margin in the second quarter, before failing to land a major in the third. They had kicked 12.3 a week earlier, but were horribly inaccurate here and had 1.10 to three quarter time.
A broken ankle to the St Kilda captain barely slowed the locals, and they continued to do what they wanted while Melbourne kept spurning good chances on goal.
Best were Monk, Rigby and Donaldson.
