After the week from hell following their 186 point loss in Geelong a week earlier and the subsequent sacking of Dean Bailey as coach the Demons came out breathing fire but their intensity didn't last until the end of the first quarter and the Blues ran away to a big victory.
With Chris Judd dominant in the second quarter, the Blues slammed on 8.1 to 0.3 to take control of the match.
Watts, Trengove and Dunn were Melbourne's best.
Matthew Bate replaced James Strauss in the first quarter when Strauss suffered a horrific double break of the leg. Luke Tapscott was knocked out in the last quarter when he was collected by Stefan Martin in a marking contest.
