Lowest score against Carlton and at Princes Park
Another week, another low score. They only had two behinds the previous Saturday previous Saturday, and got up to eight quarters in a row dating back to Round 15 without a goal. Their only two of this match came in the last term when Carlton's captain put his defenders onto the ball when the game was long won.
With first choice players Wood, Herring, Wardill and Sholl all missing Melbourne blooded three two gamers, neither of who played seniors again, and recalled Leo Rankin after an unsuccessful debut three weeks earlier. Their only advantage over Carlton was foot speed on the wet ground while the Blues were by far the superior the drop of the ball.
Best were Lewis, Moodie and Young. McGinis left the ground before the end of the game after hurting his shoulder in the third quarter.
