On another wet day at the MCG the bubble burst for the high flying Demons who didn't kick a goal until they were nearly 100 points behind and saw almost 10% shaved off their percentage. A Garry Lyon goal at the 28 minute mark of the second quarter saved them from the rare indignity of a goalless first half.

They stemmed the tide in the second half but it was too late and Geelong careered to a massive win. Jamie Shanahan injured his foot and was reported for striking Brett Spinks (two week suspension), while David Schwarz hurt his hamstring and was out for three weeks. Steven Febey suffered a thumb injury.

Best were Lyon, Yze and Smoker.

Neale Daniher said "Obviously a very disappointing day for our club and we need to sit back and have a look at why we were so poor early. The Geelong midfield just dominated the game and we had no answers to their on-ball superiority."
