After a disappointing loss a week earlier, the Demons shot back to the top of the ladder by beating the team that had displaced them a week earlier. In front of an empty stadium due to the latest COVID-19 lockdown in the state of Victoria, Melbourne got off to a quick start with a goal through James Harmes after 15 seconds.
A six goal first quarter set up the win and they were never seriously threatened again.
Best were Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Steven May. Tom Sparrow replaced Ed Langdon (concussion) in the last two minutes.
