Sydney bounced back from a humiliating draw with the Saints where they had been defensively strangled to record a comfortable win against the Demons. Having failed to kick a goal in the first quarter the Demons challenged briefly in the second, forcing the Swans onto the back foot, but couldn't capitalise on their brief period of domination and were soon being beaten again.

Barry Hall dominated Alistair Nicholson in the Swan forward line, and his influence was barely curbed when Daniher moved Craig Ellis onto him while at the other end David Neitz was being comfortably beaten by Andrew Dunkley who held him to one goal and two marks. Adam Goodes was also playing a virtuoso role at centre-half back on David Schwarz who he beat so comprehensively the Melbourne man was benched.

The Swans were as far as 44 points in front before taking their foot off the gas.

Best were Woewodin, Johnstone and White. Nathan Brown suffered a corked thigh.
