One of the surprises of the 2016 trade period, four time Hawthorn premiership player Lewis was not expected to figure at all in initial discussions. In the deal, Melbourne traded its third and fourth round selections (48 and 66) in return for Hawthorn’s third and fourth selections (57 and 68). The 30-year-old and four-time premiership player joined the Club on a three-year contract.
Lewis played every game in his first season except for three weeks suspended after being reported for striking in Round 2. He played every game but one of the 2018 season in the Demon defence as the side made a Preliminary Final. His last season was less successful, missing the first four weeks with injury, then being dropped for two months in the middle of the year. He returned in Round 16 and played out the year before retiring.
