A midfielder, Fisher won the Sheehan Medal for best player in the 2000 Under 16 National Championships and was named an All-Australian. He earned All-Australian schoolboy honours again the next two years, and captained the Victorian Country side. He then won the Best and fairest at North Ballarat in 2002 before joining the Demons.

Fisher played 14 games in the Sandringham midfield in 2003 but was delisted at the end of 2004. He joined Glenelg in 2005, playing 92 games and winning their Best and Fairest in 2009, his last season with the SANFL club.
