Statistical categories led:
Equal most clangers in a game: Travis Johnstone (10)
The game nobody wanted to win. A Carlton loss would ensure the #1 selection in the draft, while the Dees would lose a second round pick and the right to a priority pick if they won under five games in 2008.
The Blues attacked relentlessly in the first term, but drew only 1.7. Melbourne did enough from there to win easily with Robertson dominant.
Under a distinct lack of defensive pressure Johnstone racked up a career high 42 possessions and three Brownlow votes.
Carlton's loss enabled them to use pick 3 in the National Draft as trade bait to lure Chris Judd from West Coast.
Best were Johnstone, Robertson and Jones. Michael Newton was reported for charging Paul Bower. He received a reprimand.
