Played seven Reserves games in 1975. He returned to Shepparton in 1976, won their best and fairest in 1977 and played in a premiership the following year.

Keenan coached Congupna in 1982 and 1983, then Stanhope from 1984 to 1985, before winning a premiership as a player with Stanhope in 1986 to end a career of over 300 senior games.

Also played for Tasmanian side Devonport in 1973.

In October 2012 he was killed after being struck by a patron at a Tatura hotel.
