A season that had promised so much when the side were 8-0 ended not with a premiership, but with a battling win against their lower mid-table hosts.
For the first three quarters the two sides had each taken their advantage with the wind and the game had been relatively benign. They'd traded the lead at each change of ends, before the game turned into open warfare and degraded into little more than a brawl during the last quarter. Melbourne rose above the chaos to kick four unanswered goals and finish the season on a high.
Best were Moysey, Moodie and Fry.
