Following from its successful 2005 debut, the Breast Cancer Network Australia held another "pink" day. Once again Melbourne trained in pink during the week, and the goal umpires for the match also wore the colour.
Four previous times Fremantle had beaten West Coast in their derby game only to lose the next week, and their defeat made it five. They were flat, and Melbourne took advantage of it.
The Demons kicked five goals to one in the last quarter to make sure of victory. More importantly, they restricted the Dockers to 58 points - a far cry from the shootout in Round 6, 2005 where they had scored more than 130 in a thrilling win.
Best was Aaron Davey.
