Another week, another loss and the brave new Skilton era at Melbourne was starting to turn into a nightmare. North's first win over the Demons at the MCG since 1969 stamped them as finals contenders and showed just how far off the pace the home side were.
With the game well over at three-quarter time and North ten goals in front they slowed down and allowed the Demons to boot eight goals, causing Ron Barassi to spray his side unmercifully despite their win.
Best were Clark, Alves and Wells. Brewer was replaced by Williamson at half time and Smith by Tilbrook in the final quarter. Gary Hardeman broke his toe.
