After beating Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, Melbourne remained in South Australia before their 'Gather Round' fixture against the Crows five days later. They started favourites against the winless home side, but after kicking the opening goal Melbourne spent most of the quarter on the back foot, before Adelaide snatched the lead in the dying seconds. The Demons took back the lead with four goals to one in the second term, and were as far as 31 points ahead late in the third before the Crows rallied. The margin was reduced to 15 points late in the game, with Adelaide doing all the attacking, but they were unable to break through.
Best were Petracca, May and Fritsch. Taj Woewodin replaced Ben Brown in the fourth quarter. Jacob van Rooyen was fined $2500 for striking, and Kysaiah Pickett suspended for a week for dangerous conduct. Melbourne unsuccessfully appealed Pickett's penalty.
