Finally back into finals contention after five wins out of their last six the Demons failed their big test against fellow finals contenders Collingwood.
Jakovich kicked 5.4 and Steven Stretch knocked Collingwood captain Tony Shaw out but it was pretty much the only fight that the Demons could manage, especially in a second half where they capitulated.
An early onslaught by the Pies had been absorbed and some Jakovich magic had got them back into the game by half time where they were just five points down. When Jako kicked his fourth immediately after the restart to give his side the lead it looked like the Demons were going to run away with the game.
From there it was all Collingwood - the Magpies kicked five goals to one in the third quarter and eight to one from then to deliver a major blow to the Demons finals aspirations.
Best were J. Stynes, Yeats and Rohde
