In their first game for three months, returning after the AFL's COVID-19 lockout, the Demons returned in blistering fashion, keeping Carlton scoreless in the first quarter. The lead was out to as much as 42 points before Carlton kicked the last two goals of the first half, then went on to dominate the rest of the game.
Melbourne only kicked one second half goal, allowing the Blues to level the scores late in the game before a Bayley Fritsch point gave the Demons their winning margin, not before having to withstand two attacks from the Blues.
Best were Petracca, Gawn and Oliver.
