Any lingering doubts that Melbourne's season was over were extinguished in their last appearance for premiership points at Waverley. It had never been a happy hunting ground for them, and it was appropriate to go out with a season ending thrashing.
The club had lurched into crisis during the week, with Chief Executive Officer Cameron Schwab abruptly resigning after clashing with President Joseph Gutnick.
The team's on-field performance matched their off-field drama. Aaron Lord kicked three goals in the first 16 minutes and the Hawks dominated the first three quarters. Melbourne showed some juice in the final term but by then they were already soundly beaten.
Best were Woewodin, White and Rigoni. Matthew Bishop was charged with striking but cleared.
