After two weeks of a misfiring forward line that had left their finals hopes in grave danger, the Demons opened the game with a five goal first quarter. The Giants levelled the game at half time, before the sides played a see-sawing second half. First year player Trent Rivers kicked two goals to open a break, before a late goal by the Giants left them within one straight kick in the final seconds. Melbourne held on, keeping them in the finals race.
Best were Langdon, May and Rivers.
