The two teams battled heavy winds, but Melbourne came out on top for their last victory of the season. Instead of favouring one team per quarter the breeze blew across the ground and made kicking for goal extremely difficult. Both teams hit the post early, but Melbourne instantly looked better with their six scoring shots.
Carlton got their only goal of the game in the second quarter, but were still a goal down. They scored just three more behinds for the day.
Best were Young, McClelland and Parkin.
