The third of three Gibb brothers to play for Collingwood alongside Percy and Len, his career at the Magpies ended midway through 1914 when he was suspended for 15 matches for striking.
Gibb joined the Demons but after playing eight games at the conclusion of his suspension the club then went into recess and he was forced to sit out the war years. He returned to play the first three games of the 1919 season before being cleared back to Hawthorn in June of that year.
His son Ray later played senior football for Hawthorn.
