Defender drafted after impressing in the NEAFL competition, where he debuted for the Aspley senior team aged 16. His brother Corey was drafted by North Melbourne in the same year and both made their debut in 2016. Corey joined the Demons in 2019 after a season with Casey.
Wagner played a further nine games in 2017 and five in 2018. 2019 was his most productive season since 2016, playing 12 games. His 2020 was not as successful, only selected for two late season games and delisted at the end of the year. His father played 200 games in the Queensland League, and both his grandfathers played in Queensland premiership sides.
