Solidly built rover who had trialled with Carlton in 1946 without signing. He'd also been signed by Geelong, and Melbourne had to wait until their hold on him expired before adding him to their list.

Shaw played in three consecutive wins during 1949 before dropping back to the Seconds. There he suffered a severely fractured jaw which kept him out for several weeks. He never returned to the senior side, retiring due to the effects of the injury.
