The brother of Collingwood's Ricky was tied to the Magpies until the end of 1980 after having originally been zoned to Collingwood when playing for Hamilton. He moved to Gisborne in 1978 play under older brother and ex-Demon Bill and after three years in Melbourne's zone he was eligible to be picked up by the Dees.
After just four games the winger left 1981 wooden spooner Melbourne and joined 1982 wooden spooner Footscray for one game. This makes him one of just eight players in league history to change teams and win consecutive spoons. He’d wanted to go to Collingwood and join his brother, but the Pies only offered a fifth of Melbourne’s requested fee.
