A solid-half back, Walker was disqualified for the last few weeks of the 1914 season after playing for Coburg but returned early the next year. He added a further 16 games in 1915 then dropped out of football when Melbourne did during the First World War.
Walker returned for the winless 1919 season but only played 21 games over the next two seasons. His first appearance of 1921 saw him moved to full back, where he had a nightmare performance against Collingwood. He was dropped one game short of 50 VFL matches and never played senior football again.
