Cleared to Melbourne before Round 2, 1914, the wingman played the next two weeks before dropping out of the team for good.

He rejoined Brunswick in 1915, and in April that year enlisted with the Army, serving in the 22nd Battalion and 7th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery. Parsons lost his arm in combat.
