The brother of Harold and Hugh Dunbar.
Played for the VFL against a Bendigo league team in 1924.
Dunbar returned to training in 1926 and offered his services if required but, unlike Derek Mollison who also put his hand up to make a comeback, he did not add to his VFL games total. In 1928 Ballarat applied for a clearance to sign Dunbar, but even though Melbourne was willing to let him go they were unable to sign him because of an embargo on their league.
