The brother of Jamie Duursma started 1986 with the Sydney Under 19s, then trained with Essendon and Hawthorn before joining Sandringham mid-season after moving to Victoria. Duursma played Under 19s and Reserves with Melbourne in 1988.
In 1989 the defender joined North Hobart, playing in a premiership that year. Played six games in total for Sandringham in 1986 and 1991. Named on a half-back flank in the Rochester team of the century alongside his brother. Also played for Tarwin, Koo Wee Rup and Cora Lynn.
Coached Yarram in 2006, then Foster.
His son Xavier debuted for Port Adelaide in 2019.
