The son of Barry Bourke played Under 19s and Reserves in 1988 and 1989 before being dropped from Melbourne's list before 1990. Joined Dandenong in the VFA and won two Best and Fairest awards and a premiership before joining St Kilda in the 1993 Pre-Season Draft, where he played for four years.
