Medium forward who was the Demons last non-AFL experienced player in the 2010 draft season. He did not play a senior match in 2011 and was delisted at the end of the year.

In 2013 Johnston joined the Ohio State Buckeyes college football team as a punter, where he remained through 2014. He made his NFL debut for Philadelphia in 2017.
