A week after registering the biggest win in the competition's history, Melbourne nearly came unstuck at home against a side well out of finals contention. Playing for a guaranteed double chance, the Demons got off to a good start with the wind and kept Carlton scoreless. Quickfire goals by the Blues reduced the margin to two points at the half, before the sides slugged their way through a second half with only two goals kicked. The Blues had a chance to win the game via a set shot in the last minute but missed and the Demons held on to seal second place.
Best were Hanks, Heath and D. Pearce. Gabrielle Colvin was fined $400 for a dangerous tackle and Kate Hore $400 for rough conduct.
