In their seventh season, Melbourne finally achieved the goal they had fallen narrowly short of on many occasions and won their inaugural AFLW premiership. Having missed out on the right to host the Grand Final by falling the equivalent of a point short of Brisbane's percentage in the regular season, the Demons were forced to play in 32 degree, humid conditions, in the first match to be played on Brisbane's new training, Reserves, and AFLW venue. Both the Gabba and Carrara were unavailable due to previous bookings, leaving the game to played on turf that had been laid a month earlier. The surface held up, and a drop in the temperature across the middle quarters helped Melbourne recover an early two goal deficit to win.

In a low-scoring game, their defensive efforts made all the difference, allowing a second quarter running goal to Blaithin Mackin and a third quarter set shot to Tayla Harris to be the difference. They went into the last quarter two points in front, and held on to extend the margin to four by the final siren.

Best were Hanks, West and Gay.
