The Demons travelled to Perth for their first ever game at Fremantle Oval, and the first match of the pre-season. They started brightly against the 2014 finalists, but a 4.2 to 0.1 second quarter left them 26 points down at half time.
Melbourne's third quarter was their best of the day, restricting Freo to a single point and going into the last term five points down. They failed to kick another goal - putting in the third consecutive 0.1 quarter to one end of the ground.
Best were N. Jones, Lumumba and Tyson. McKenzie and vandenBerg replaced Newton and Jetta respectively at half-time.
