First Goal
Alf George (36th game)

A week after failing to kick a goal, Melbourne were back in the scoring but still fell well short of South's score. The Reds sent Naismith and Pearce to the dangerous Mortimer and kept him to three, but as a result other South forwards were left alone to do damage.

The visitors started well, and led at quarter time before South fought back with four goals to one to take the lead at half time. They continued to pull away in the third quarter, and won easily though Melbourne were not disgraced.

Best were Tomkins, Coutie and Brereton. Alf George suffered fractured fingers.
