Melbourne had been one of the great disappointments of 1992, but on a day where John Northey celebrated his 300th game combined as player and coach, his side ran away with a surprisingly easy win.
In front of a hostile Adelaide crowd that pelted Allen Jakovich with bananas, the Demons battled, wind and rain, and conceding the first goal, to kick the next seven before quarter time. The Crows then blew their chance with the wind, kicking 0.10 after the break. Another five goals to two in the third gave the visitors a 52 point lead at the last change.
Crow Michael Murphy was reported for striking both Kevin Dyson and Andy Goodwin in a melee at the end of the game. He received two match suspensions for each charge. Crows coach Graham Cornes reacted to the loss with a 7am Monday morning training drill which involved players wading through near-freezing water.
Best were Lovell, G. Lovett and Charles.
