After registering their fifth win of the season a week earlier, the Demons entered another winnable game but failed miserably. The game started at a poor standard, with both teams making poor errors. St Kilda managed to get the ball forward more, having 20 inside 50's to five in the first quarter. After being kept goalless in the second quarter the Saints improved throughout the second half, leaving the Demons were mired in bad football and going down to a disappointing defeat.
Best were Viney, Cross and Gawn.
Viv Michie replaced Aaron vandenBerg during the third quarter. McDonald suffered an eye injury.
