After three straight losses Paul Roos reshuffled his side on a rainy day at the MCG, returning James Frawley to defence to play on Tom Hawkins and restoring Lynden Dunn to the forward line.

The Demons stayed with their opponents for the first few minutes but couldn't take advantage of a number of scoring opportunities and went goalless in the first term. Geelong kicked away in the second quarter, and while Melbourne managed to the level the goalscoring count for the second half at 3-3 they were well behind due to their poor first half and the Cats won comfortably.

Best were Riley, Viney and Dawes.
