Biggest loss in Round 14
The Demons mid-season slump his its nadir with their fourth biggest loss in history, and fourth most points conceded in a match. John Longmire vaulted to the top of the Coleman Medal tally with 14 goals as the young Kangaroos murdered their more experienced opposition.
Longmire had already broken his club's goalkicking record once during the season when he kicked 12 goals in Round 2, but he extended the mark even further as he beat seven different opponents. Stuart Cameron, Danny Hughes, Earl Spalding and even Darren Bennett were sent to play on him - but nobody could stop the teenage full-forward.
The result remains Melbourne's worst performance against North Melbourne, and was the equal biggest loss that the Demons had ever suffered at the MCG until Round 2, 2013.
Best were T. Viney, Johnson and B. Lovett.
