While Melbourne easily beat the winless home side, the margin didn't tell the full story as for much of the game St Kilda played equally to their opponents.
St Kilda had the first two chances on good but missed both, eventually conceding the only two goals of the opening term in its dying minutes. There was similar after quarter time, with St Kilda kicking three behinds before conceding a late goal. It was St Kilda's best performance of the season, but they fell away in the third quarter. Melbourne booted three quick goals, and four for the quarter to make the game safe.
Best were Wardill, Moodie, and McGinis.
