Against a Giants side with just two wins at the MCG, one against Melbourne, the Demons looked to continue the form that almost won in Perth a week earlier. They were poor, only kicking one goal in the first half. The Giants threatened a landslide win when they led by 57 at three quarter time but eased up and let the Demons kick seven consolation goals in the final term.
Best were Gawn, Hore and C. Wagner. Salem (concussion) was replaced in the selected side by Spargo. Clayton Oliver was fined $2000 for striking during the last quarter.
