Lured to Moe after kicking 10 goals in a game for Neerim South he repeated the feat on debut with his new club and was soon invited to join the Demons. The half-forward flanker/winger graduated from the 1934 Seconds side to make his senior debut the next year, and after appearing in the last two games of the season returned to the Seconds to play in a flag.

He remained on the senior list until early 1937 when he was cleared to Hawthorn. He played 43 games for them, 42 between 1937 and 1940 when he retired. He played a final match for the Mayblooms in Round 5, 1943 before giving the game away for good.

Lived to 102 years, making him one of few Melbourne players to achieve the feat.
