On a ground battered by rain, and with the storm coming on and off through the match, the Demons dominated the first ten minutes through goals from Clark and Jones before allowing the Suns to equalise before half time.
Gold Coast took the lead and though Melbourne had their chances to win they were unable to add more than one goal in the second half.
Best were Clark, Jones and Magner.
