The wingman debuted at Collingwood, playing 12 games across three seasons. He missed many matches while serving with the Army in New Guinea. After being wounded Stabb was discharged at the end of 1943 and joined VFA side Northcote. He was recruited to the Demons the next year where he played two seasons, including on the wing of the losing 1946 Grand Final side.

After his VFL career ended he returned to Northcote, where he remained through 1956 until forced to retire when he cut his foot with an axe in a household accident.
