Another week, another shattering loss for the Demons who followed their improved showing against Richmond a week earlier with another shocker in the west - their 14th consecutive loss at Subiaco.
The Demons kicked the first goal of the game through Jack Watts, who had been sent forward in his return from injury, but the Dockers kicked the next seven to end the quarter 40 points in front.
The margin got out to 71 at half time before Melbourne stemmed the bleeding in the third term. Fremantle resumed normal service in the last and the Demons only narrowly managed to avoid their second 100 point loss at Subiaco in just over a year.
It was their biggest ever loss against Fremantle to that point, and their equal lowest score along with their last match in Perth. Both records would only stand until the next match between the two sides.
Best were Howe, Trengove and M. Jones. Rohan Bail replaced Neville Jetta in the third quarter. Dean Terlich suffered a rib injury.
