The home side had minimal advantage from the wind and their 13 point lead was a fair reflection of the early play. Another goal was disallowed when a free kick was paid before it went through.
Each team added another goal in the second quarter, before South were the dominant side for the third term and took a one point lead into the last game. They ran away to an easy victory, with Melbourne unable to score in the last quarter and barely getting the ball across the middle of the ground.
Best were Hugh Purse and Nolan. Bill Bowe suffered a knee injury.
