The unbeaten Demons were made to work for victory, fighting back from conceding the first two goals to take a 22 point lead during the third quarter. Sydney then hit back to cut the margin to less than six points midway through the last term. After an arm-wrestle quarter where only four goals were kicked, a fourth goal by Tom McDonald sealed victory.
Best were Tom McDonald, Steven May and Clayton Oliver. Kade Chandler was unused medical substitute. Steven May was fined $2000 for striking Lance Franklin in the first quarter.
